A sturdy linen weave forms the ground for meandering cotton chain-stitch designs in modernist patterns, and chunky bars of satin-stitch embroidery, to give a decidedly fresh modern look to the ancient craft of stitchery. Printed fabrics, in linear designs, are rendered in a painterly manner, some like gentle watercolours, some in pointillist dots. Light filters through a curtain of very fine linen, pieced together in a geometric patchwork, and reflecting its abstract patterns on floor and walls. The Mark Alexander design studio has created patterns in the most subtle of colours and textures to enhance any interior – traditional or modern, in town or country.
